Setting Your
Monitor's Screen Resolution
Introduction
Screen size is important to Flat Rate Plus! (FRP). Screen size is measured in pixels. The
more pixels, the more room to display information - without loss of readability. The
larger the screen size, the more room that you have to display forms on your computer
screen. In other words, larger screen sizes can provide more room to display forms,
provide higher resolutions, and in turn provide clearer images.
Screen Resolution
Details
The number of pixels, or dots, on the screen. The five major resolutions are VGA (640 x
480), SVGA (800 x 600), XVGA (1024 x 768), XVGA (1152 x 864), and XVGA (1280 x 1024).
These numbers are the screen's dimensions in pixels. A VGA monitor, for example, has
307,200 pixels. Images generally appear more clearly defined on a screen with more pixels.
A VGA monitor would be a lower resolution monitor than an SVGA monitor.
If you recieved a message indicating that your monitor's screen size is set at 640 x 480
pixels, we recommend it be increased. FRP includes forms that are too large to be fully
displayed on a monitor whoes resolution is set to 640 x 480 pixels.
It is recommended that you set your computer's screen screen size (resolution) to 800 x
600 pixels or more. We also recommend that your Display Font Size be set to "Small
Fonts". In fact, most modern software programs will benefit from these
recommendations.
Step-By-Step
Here is how to change the size of your monitor's display (increase resolution) in Windows 95, 98, and NT 4.0.
If you wish, print this topic by clicking the Print button at the top of this form.
Close the message box, indicating that your resolution\screen size is too low, by clicking OK.
Close or minimize FRP and return to your desktop. Right click in the desktop. In other words, using your mouse, point your cursor at a clear area of the desktop and press the right mouse button. A dialog box will appear. Select Properties.
Locate and click the tab labeled Settings. Locate the frame titled Screen Area and observe the number at the bottom of the frame. This is your screen size setting as measured in pixels.
In the Screen Frame, drag the adjustment button to the right until your screen size measures 800 x 600. If you like the changes, you may always go back and increase the screen size further.
Miscellaneous Tips
We also recommend that you set your desktop to display "Small Icons". You will find under the Effects tab. Search Windows Help using the keyword Icons. Select "Size Of" from the list. Choose "To Change The Visual Settings for your Desktop"
Video drivers (software that operates your video screen) can be the source of many technical problems with hardware and software. If you are having problems with your video display, unexplained system crashes or lockups, or even printing problems, it may be your video driver. Please check with your system manufacturer to see if they have an updated driver available.
